Birthday in Manhattan
Cinema has dead... Long lives the video! accused the adagio in those years that began this small great project. At the same time, a new world order was announced after the fall of the Berlin wall. Today, witnesses and part of so many events occurred during these 20 years, we see that the cinema did not die and the video (today DV) rather come to complement and contribute to the continuity of the format that refuses to disappear.

Indeed, a new world order was imposed: that of a world more unequal. On the other hand, as disobeying the status quo, greater production has been developing in our countries. Today, in a world more virtual we seem more visible thanks to so many events, festivals and offers, unthinkable at that time, when Videoteca del Sur was the only project dedicated to dissemination of Latin American cinema. A privilege that has allowed to a promote artists, stories, cultures and characters, not only in the New Yorker epicenter but also throughout the nation. To be precise, it is and has been, an experience based on the very close relationship with media environment and the filmmakers. Also much effort, inventiveness, and above all: passion. And that is why, unrepeatable.

Thanks to those who have allowed our state of being in force.

 Pedro Zurita / Director
